The large language model赛道 has risen in China, attracting a large number of entrepreneurs and capital attention. IT Orange has included 134 related startup companies. Large language model entrepreneurs are mainly divided into two categories: one is the technical backbones at middle and senior levels in large Internet companies, such as representatives from Baidu, Microsoft, ByteDance, Alibaba, and Didi. They have rich industry experience, technical accumulation, and management capabilities. The other category is entrepreneurs with a background in top universities’ scientific research work, such as Huang Minlie, Qiu Jianming, Nie Liqiang, Zheng Feng, etc. They have profound theoretical foundations and scientific research capabilities and can transform scientific research achievements into applications. There are currently five large language model unicorn enterprises in China, namely Minimax Xiyu Technology, Zhipu AI, Baichuan Intelligent Technology, ZeroOne Universe, and Moonshot AI. The core founding teams have concentrated multiple advantageous factors. These unicorns all received new financing in 2024, and financing for large language models is hot. However, starting a business in the large language model field faces challenges such as technology, hardware, and commercialization, such as reliability issues, high computing power costs, difficulty in obtaining data sets, and difficulty in commercial implementation.
